Career Highlights

* During the weekend of Oct. 7-8, 2000, Samyn completed a sweep of all three of New York's final preps for the three Breeders' Cup turf races, taking the Grade 1 Flower Bowl Invitational aboard Colstar, the Grade 1 Turf Classic Invitational aboard John's Call and the Grade 2 Kelso Handicap aboard Forbidden Apple.

* Samyn and Kelly Kip teamed up to win the 6-furlong Bold Ruler on April 11, 1998 in track-record time of 1:07 3/5 at Aqueduct. The following year, they teamed up again to win that race in 1:07 2/5, establishing an even faster track record.

* In June 1996, Samyn reached a rare milestone with trainer Phil Johnson when they paired to win their 400th race together, with Kiri's Clown. During a 20-year span Johnson and Samyn won 73 stakes races together.

* Tied the then-American record for one mile on the turf in 1:32 2/5 aboard Expensive Decision at Belmont Park in the 1990 Kelso.

* Won 16 stakes races in New York in 1986.

* Rode in the Japan Cup at Tokyo Race Course on Nov. 20, 1985, before flying across the Pacific to Los Angeles to ride in the Matriarch Stakes at Hollywood Park. (This is believed to be the first time one jockey has ridden in a stakes race on different continents on the same day).
